Perfect drop in component, exact match for my unit! Brittany was a great resource.

by:

This Aluminum landing gear box is the best, heavy duty looking, the original was made of plastic and cracked. I still need to install the new gear box and I will give you an up data after installation. Thanks George for the emails and fast shipping. The photo is of my old gear box that has cracked at the bottom.

by:

This product is exactly the same as my stock one except it's made out of aluminum and a lot stronger. Easy to install - 5 screws and a cotter pin.

by:

This replacement gear box was a perfect fit for my original. In order to remove the old gear box the shaft will require rebutting. The new gear box fit the shaft with no problem.

by:

Works exactly as needed, installed very quick thanks in part to a you tube video. This part was 30$ cheaper then the plastic replacement and what should of been used by manufacturers.

by:

Very pleased with your service and sales person. Will remember where to purchase replacement parts.

by:

Fit just perfect. Landing gear works good as new

by:

Exact match for what came off my 5er except this one was metal and not missing a corner. Unbelievable that the factory would use a cheap lightweight plastic piece of garbage to do a high-torque job but this is the perfect replacement. Now I just need to remove each landing gear leg and clean, lube , and/or replace parts as necessary to prevent trashing my new gearbox. Another factory fallacy: lifetime lubrication. Hah! Everything mechanical needs lube and your landing gear is no exception. My only complaint is I paid for 3-day shipping but didn't realize it was 3 business days and received my gearbox 8 days later because of a weekend and the TG holiday. No one's fault but my own, live and learn.

The gearbox worked perfectly and is what the factory should be putting on when new but you know how that goes. I have since sold my trailer but the gearbox was working as it should. I ended up replacing one landing gear leg should have replaced both but the gears were in fine shape that caused the problem with cracking the original gearbox and since then had no more problems. Thank you for caring enough to send this email, as I know customer service agents are busy and most companies just dont take the time to reach out to customers after the fact. I have learned that etrailer is the premier site to go to for trailering issues and have used your site for wiring problems and mechanical issues alike. Thank you for providing the rv customer with a great resource to go to for much needed info and parts. I have and will continue to recommend your site to those in need.

I purchased this to replace the "composite", read junk plastic gearbox from Atwood. My local RV stores wanted $100 for the junk plastic one. One store said they can't keep them in stock ever since Atwood changed them from metal to "composite" read cheap plastic. I found this aluminum gearbox to be sturdy and an exact replacement for the existing one. Where the plastic one would flex and the gears would slip when lifting my 16,000 trailer, this one is sturdy and just works. Thanks for a cost effective replacement.

While I have not used the trailer a great deal, the product does seem to be working as designed. Thank you for the follow up.

Wow was that ever easy and simple to install new Geary on front legs Thanks

by:

The gearbox I ordered arrived in good shape. Andrea made sure I had the right one before purchasing, and it was an exact match for my broken gearbox. The product arrived on time, and helped me get my camper back on the road. Though the the gearbox in the picture (and my broken gearbox) are black, the one I received was not painted. Hardly an issue, but thought it was worth mentioning. Thanks etrailer, great service again!

Its been a year and the gearbox is holding up well. I think in this instance the best compliment I can give is that I dont ever think about the gearbox when running the landing gear in and out. This repair forced me to learn how to gain achess to the leg bevel gears and where to apply grease. Armed with this knowledge, I expect my new gearbox to provide many more years of service.

by:

Excellent service and the advice of the tech, Michael, was outstanding. He gave me several options I could use to replace my gear box. I am currently trying to resolve a continuing problem with my landing gear and will use this service again and for any future issues. Thank you for all your help.

I could not be happier with how my new landing gears are performing. The landing gears are continuing to perform like new. I will definitely use etrailer again for any parts I might need. They are on my favorites list for quick and ready access.

by:

The gearbox installed and operates as expected.

I
ordered the aluminum housing gearbox to replace a plastic one that broke. The aluminum is expected to be much more durable.

by:

Spoke to William B. at e-trailer and told him my landing gear was skipping or jumping sometimes as I raised the 5th wheel up. I had already put a new electric motor on because the other got hot quickly. William diagnosed the problem as the gearbox. He sent one out quickly as I had plans the next weekend. After I put the gearbox on it, I raised it several times and it works great. Thanks William and e-trailer for your help and quick processing.

by:

Installed this on my 2008 Montana Mountaineer. Installation was a direct replacement. No issues worked great! I installed the upgraded electric motor as well between them both I am able to lift the 5th wheel higher and get it on my truck.

by:

I would like to complement the folks at etrailer for a job well done.
I recently purchased two gearboxes # LG-179015 and a motor # LG-196308 for my Keystone Cougar fifth wheel.
Your people were very helpful at helping me be sure I was ordering the correct parts and got them to me in just 3 days, and the prices were extremely fair.
Installation was a piece of cake and it works better now than when it was new.
I have purchased from etrailer before and will continue to do so in the future, definitely a " one stop shop " for trailer parts.
Thanks for everything !

by:

I contacted three local trailer parts supplier trying to order A landing gear gearbox for my fifth wheel trailer. No luck, never had enough information for them. Call etrailer And talked to Will who knew exactly what I needed. Receive the part had it on in no time and was back in business. Outstanding job well thank you.

by:

Called looking for a new part for an old trailer. Rep was very helpful through the process and took the time to talk to one of the techs to determine if the new part would fit my 5th wheels landing jacks. Part arrived quickly and installed with no issues. I will shop here for now on.

by:

One week ago my 5th wheel landing gear broke. Today it is up and running thanks to Etrailer. I would not have been able to do it without the help from Lisa, Jennifer, Jameson , John and others through emails and half a dozen phone calls for technical help. I will definitely buy from etrailer again. Replaced both legs, cross-shaft, and gearbox.

by:

Were hearing an issue with one of our Lippert Ground Control 2 leveling jacks. This went away after cleaning and reassembly but decided to get a gear box on hand as it will fit any of the 4 jacks.

Could not find the gear box on ET but Lori B., our sales associate, was able to find the correct part using the Lippert part number. She is great and very helpful. This is an aluminum housed unit instead of the plastic housing used originally. Wish ET sold the bushing (nut) and screw that hold the motor and gear box onto the leg.

by:

This was a direct replacement for my damaged plastic gear box. I have a 2011 Forest river Wildcat 5th Wheel. I did have to take a 1/4" off of the gear box retaining collar to line up the screw. Resolved my problem, which was the small gear had teeth missing and would bind under load, tripping the 30 amp fuse. Thanks for the reliable service and informational videos.

by:

To date i haven’t experienced any issues at all. The motor has good power for raising my 5th wheel each time it is needed.

by:

Good fit. Big upgrade over the plastic gearbox. Only issue was minor, that the shaft spacer needed to have a little shaved off to fit. The thickness of the metal housing is a smidge larger. Other than that, works great!
I paired it with a 6500lb motor for max efficiency.

by:

Etrailer came through again right on time....as always service was fast...gearbox showed up right on time.... got it installed haven't used it yet ...it's an exact match for vmc940rb. (Venture mfg).....lg.179015 by sttimber carson ...fit like a glove . Took less than 10 minutes to install..

by:

Install was easy and the gear box is working flawlessly. Replaced the old plastic bodied gear box that broke in half. Also took the opportunity to lube up the jack gears and screws while things were apart. The system is running smooth now.

by:

Installed great and fixed the problem. Then my trailer was totaled. But it worked great for that one trip.

To replace the ADTH motor on your landing gear the Stromberg Carlson # LC196308 will work perfectly. This motor is rated for 6,500 pounds like your existing unit. For a gear box replacement you'd want the # LG-179015 if this was needed as well.

  • Do I Need A Support Jack To Replace A Gearbox For My 5th Wheel Trailer
If you can level your trailer it is not necessary to add an additional support jack before removing your gearbox. The gearbox turns the screw that activates the jack, but it also has a fail safe that does not allow the jack to drop if the gearbox is removed. In the case you are not able to level your trailer, you will need an additional support jack. I have included links to our stabilizer jacks and gear boxes below.

  • Replacement Motor for Atwood 45-1605
Based on my research the Atwood number you listed refers to the gearbox. The Stromberg Carlson equivalent to this (Atwood components are no longer available) is the part # LG-179015 and the corresponding replacement motor is the part # LG-196308. These will both work great as replacements for your Atwood Landing Gear system.

There is no alternate gear box available but you may be able to install a second motor and switch, # LG-217884, so that each motor is only doing half the work. This will help the motors to last longer and should raise the trailer a little faster. You may also want to check the battery the motor is pulling from. If it is weak then that would affect the motor performance. Any auto parts store can test a battery for you. If you get a second motor, you will also need to replace the follower...

I'd also suggest trying to manually operate the legs to make sure they're not bound up. A slow and weak motor can also be caused by low battery voltage. Check to make sure your trailer battery is in good working order and fully charged.
